GLASSBORO -- A 20-year-old Rowan University student was diagnosed with meningococcal meningitis Wednesday morning after being hospitalized at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Washington Township.

Courtney Jones, a sophomore communications major from Wayne who transferred to Rowan at the start of the semester, was transported by Rowan emergency services personnel early Wednesday morning after passing out in her two-bedroom apartment in the Triad Apartment complex, university officials said.

Dr. Drew Calandrella, vice president of student affairs, said Jones had received a meningitis vaccine, required of all incoming freshmen and new students living on campus, prior to transferring to Rowan.
