Science  - mankind's best friend

This page is dedicated to the area of knowledge that has most helped
humanity rise above disease ridden suffering and ignorance.  For centuries, people have pondered and wrongly theorized questions like:
To me, it is absolutely great that we know the age, size, speed, shape of the earth.  It's cool that former enemies like biting insects, pillaging tribes of raiders, cold dwelling, lack of communication, etc. I appreciate the technology that gives us air conditioning, locking doors, inoculations, clean water, recorded music, telephones - but my fellow humans take it for granted.

As an exercise, think of someone you know who had a young child die.
imagine the pain that would go on for years afterwards.  Now imagine how
pre-science societies lived:  half of children born die before 10. Chanting
shamans and amulets just won't cut it. Imagine half your siblings and half of
your children having died (usually slowly) - then imagine that most of your
friends would also have gone through the same thing.  Bummer, huh?   What's
weird about people, is we forget who our friends are - it's cool to bash
science or the people into it.  Look at science characters in movies:  they
are usually engaged in some sinister plan misusing technology, they rarely get
the hot babes cause they are geeks.  In America, our kids science scores are
the bottom 10% of civilized countries (maybe thanks to idiot TV/"culture").
So in an effort to promote science, I've started a science email list.  Anyone
can get on it - just like the rant list, it's goes out around once a week and
will offer a small update about some random "___ology" :
