I've attended the following groups at one time or another:

  • Boy Scouts of America I recommend this group and plan on being a local leader in it when my boy is older.
  • ToastMasters This group got me into being a public speaker.
  • The Way International In 1975 I was involved in this 'cult'. (I don't endorse them)
  • A mens discussion group I no longer attend, but found it usefull to share feelings with other men.
  • National Geographic Society .  that was my arm chair travel.  It's a rare mag that folks save.
  • The Committe for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal A rational thinking group which I highly recommend.
  • Philadelphia Association for Critical Thinking A local version of the above which I help run.
  • The National Arbor Day Foundation yeah, I'm a nature lover
  • IEEE I was a member until I felt they were working against the interests of the working engineer
  • Sigma Alpha Epsilon I think the fraternity helped me to be less of a nerd in college.
  • I used to be well studied and subscribe to a publication on Buckminster Fuller
  • Magazines I currently get

  • Time Magazine , good well written middle of the road source
  • US News and World Report
  • Insite A very conservative magazine
  • Utne Reader I consider this new age leftist -good balance-
  • The Sceptic They tend to be a little more social issues than as scientic as csicop
  • Skeptical Briefs A smaller csicop publication
  • Skeptical Inquirer the main publication of CSICOP - they ran an article of mine in June of 97
  • Embedded Systems Programmer I consider this the closest professional publication for what I do.
  • I write articles for PhACTUM
  • Magazines I used to get but wish I still had time to read

  • Mother Earth kind of leftist back to nature independent
  • Smithsonian good mix of science and history
  • Science News easier reading frequent science publication
  • Scientific American This is THE science magazine to get
  • National Review This is definately conservative. I got a lot of my wordtest word from this one
  • Harpers A intellectual magazine for wealthy liberals
  • tightwad gazzette

  • I run a bunch of email lists and other a long list of thought provoking rants
