OVERBALANCING WEIGHTS PRODUCE BUMPER POWER

LETTER FROM OLIVER PLUNKETT

Bumper Power

The arrangement:

1. Wheel
2. Shaft
3. Ovals with arms
4. Arm weights
5. Bumpers
6. Governor (not shown)

[Picture is in the NEN: Imagine a circle with a cross on the central axle, the weights on the ends of the cross (4), and the bumbers (8), on each side of each weight, attached to the circle and parallel to the cross - so the action is twisting back and forth a la the hand-held drums used in "The Karate Kid Part 2".] Action: When the wheel is set in motion, ovals with arm weights overbalance and swing into bumpers non-stop.
