The Gamma Cygni Nebula (IC 1318B) and NGC 6910

Characteristics:
Magnitude:  ?
Size: about 45'
Distance: 1,550 light years (for Sadr, the bright star in the upper left)
RA: 20h 28m 3s
Dec: 40 degrees 00' 46"

Description:
The region around the star Sadr, also known as Gamma Cygni, is full of emission nebulosity (designated IC 1318B).  IC 1318B is located within the constellation Cygnus and is close to other famous landmarks along the summer Milky Way, like the Pelican and North American Nebulae, the Crescent Nebula, and the Bubble.  This area is very rich in stars, hydrogen emission, bands of opaque dust, and the open star cluster NGC 6910 (lower left hand side of the image).  Make sure that you click on the hydrogen alpha image that was used as luminance for this shot.

Photographic Details:

Date:  July 16, 2004
Scope:  Takahashi Sky 90 at f4.5 with field flattener/focal reducer, on the G11 Losmandy Mount.

Autoguider:  SBIG STV with e-finder.
Camera:  SXV-H9
Filter:  Astronomik Ha filter (13 nm bandpass); Type II R, G, B filter set.

Exposures:  Ha:(HaR:G:B).  18 x 5' for Ha (90 minutes total, unbinned); 5 x 4' each for R, G, and B (20 minutes total for each color), all unbinned.
Conditions:  Temperature 68 degrees F; below average transparency; humid; average seeing; calm; a few high, thin clouds passing through.
Post-processing:  Dark frame calibration and alignment done in ImagesPlus.  Sigma combined using RC Sigma Reject Plug-in for MaximDL.  DDP of Ha image as well as combined RGB image was performed in ImagesPlus (IP).  No gradients were observed for the color channels since these were taken when the object was roughly at zenith.  Subsequent levels and curves adjustments in Photoshop CS (16 bit format).  Ha was combined with RGB using the technique of Luminance Corrected RGB.
