I was wondering about why Moray could not commercialize his device in his
time.
I found strange coincidences in this story. If you have read a little bit
of the story behind Moray device, you will find his obsession with the so
called Swedish stone which seems to have the property of rectifying
alternating current with high efficiency. Since his device generated high
frequency alternating current, it could not easily be used for running a
conventional AC motor nor a DC motor. Unless he has the method to use his
device for running motors, the use of his electricity would be very
limited. The Swedish stone provided the answer by rectifying the current
and making it into a DC. But the problem was its capacity to hold power. It
could not withstand high current for long time and burned out after a
while. These days, we have high quality rectifiers that can hold a lot of
current and voltage but this was the time the semiconductor technology has
not been born. He may have feared losing his propriety right by exposing
his technology and have some body else to solve the problem of
rectification to be able to use his electricity for DC motors. Unless
completed up to the point of a satisfactory product, it's easy to have your
technology stolen in the present system of patent. I think this was a part
of the reason that those technologies have not seen the light of the days
other than the theory of suppression if there is any.
