I have seen the kits in the Sears & Roebuck catalogue and J.C. Whitney
"decades" ago.
"Decades" ago, I had a job machining parts for scientific instruments,
and my boss had been a fully certified aircraft mechanic. I asked him
about the fuel injection kits and he said aircraft engines had been using
water injection for years (since he used to work on commercial engines,
I assume that was the context for his statement).
He said the reason for the water injection was to raise the octane
rating.
I do not recall him stating any other reason.
Well, there is my whopping contribution to the subject.

P.S. Do you know that a "boss" is a backwards double S.......O..B?
