Like big brother doesn't already know about 100+ scientists, researchers,
and interested folk alike sharing information freely across the globe.
"They" are probably going through the list alphabetically, or city by city
hypnotising people to crow like chickens everytime their phone rings.

Seriously now. I have heard of people getting into trouble when they invent
a device (supposed device) and then go in search of funds to advance, or
produce it. That IMHO is the part where an organisation "funded by the
researchers themselves" can be so great. Not only that but you have links
to resources that one or two people could only wish to have. That and you
also have complete control over everything that occurs, money wise and
resource wise (and no middle men to skim the profits off the top).

One problem that I have about getting funding from other companies is that
they generally want to get a "profit" from your system...that usually means
that you don't get much time to perfect your device, and the money you make
goes into someone elses pocket and not into research and development.

I parially remember hearing a story about a person in in this country (NZ)
who invented a device or system...I think something to do with Hydrogen, not
sure...They even won a promising business award. It was a system that would
have been a big success...until a company from the US bought it out, moved
it off shore and smothered it over a period of time.

If someone feels that their business and "profit" will be hampered by
something more simple and that will do the job cheaper, the company is going
to think about a few of the following things:

1) Let the other company grow and take away their businesses cliental...not
a good business option

2) They can buy the rights to the technology and develop and sell it
themselves, but they will not make any where near as much money as they did
with the old system.

3) They can buy out the company and smother it. Then continue making a
massive profit from their origional system.

I know these are quite large generalisations, but it should get my point
across.

Don't worry, I'm not normally this pesimistic...I just had an uterly boring
day!
