I think your father is a VERY intelligent and perceptive man. He is
precisely on the money about farming and the community that springs up
to support that effort.

This modern tendency of large conglomerates taking over farms just
drives me to distraction because IMO there will come a time when this
will produce major outrage and much sorrow and strife in society when
people realize what has been allowed to happen. All for the sake of
cheaper, more abundant foods with much, much lower vitality.

A friend who I respect immensely, uses a refractometer to measure the
sugar content of food. He says it is known that sugar correlates with
trace elements that are beneficial and necessary to life, so each
plant has a general 'vitality' range that allows you to sample and
analyze for its life giving ability.

Willis showed me how it was done, amazingly simple. Basically, a drop
of fluid is squeezeed onto a glass plate on the refractometer, the lid
is closed and you point the thing at a bright light so you can look
through the eyepiece. There is a scribed graticule which shows you
the sugar content. You then compare that number with the reference
number for that particular fruit, vegetable or plant, then you will
know how nutritious and vital it is for you.

Willis offers a service up around Plainview where he samples crops in
the field to determine their vitality. He then makes up a custom
nutrient/fertilizer mix, sprays it on the plant, waits a short period
for the absorption of the fluid, then remeasures the plant to
determine if the vitality has been improved. He can thus do an
on-the-spot test to custom adjust the plants in their own environment.

The most obvious reason for this increased vitality is the
introduction of these new elements through the spray nutrients, but
thats the way it works. The sugar content won't increase unless the
nutrients are 'harmonious' and latch to the sugar. Well, that's my
understanding of the process.

Willis has been doing this for years as a consultant and has seen the
truth of the method applied in amazingly nutrient rich produce, not
only healthy but LARGE produce. He says the produce is both succulent
and oozing with rich juices but the plants are also luxurious in
foliage and increased produce from each plant.

He explains that you can die from malnutrition even with tons of food
to eat because it just doesn't have the nutrients. Willis said it has
the life giving ability of CARDBOARD. He says the fruits and produce
grown using this method are more filling as well as beneficial to your
health because of all these added nutrients. A choice of eating two
or three fruits of vegetables to satisfy your hunger because they have
more nutrients or eating 10 fruits with little or no nutritive value.
More work expended to get less energy.

We talked about why produce markets don't rate their foods using this
method...something like a good, better, best, allowing the consumers
to pick the foods they want for themselves and their families. The
difficult part would be that not all produce of a given type, apples,
potatoes, oranges, etc..come from a single batch, though they could be
so separated.

Because of this, if the produce batches are mixed, it would require a
small drop of fluid from each piece to determine its vitality as
opposed to doing samples from a single batch (in this case from a
field where it was grown).

Though the customer could do this on the spot, the mechanical process
of extraction would damage the produce making it unsellable...what we
need is an electronic non-invasive, non-destructive method to
determine vitality. There would be a fantastic market for such a
device for health conscious people and it would induce the farmers and
conglomerates to discover and produce ever more healthful and vital
foods, so everyone wins.

You eat ONLY what you KNOW is good for you as proven by the tests on
YOUR body. Even better would be the tuned response of each person to
a given food or environment. This ties in with my concerns (and many
of my friends and associates) with this strange modern idea of lumping
dynamic entities together into generic classes.

IMO, future medicine will offer;

1) CUSTOM analysis of the current condition of each patient

2) determination of what element or compound will best optimize or
improve the health of this SINGLE patient, not averaged over millions
of samples, with the faulty idea that its ok if 1,000 die or are
impaired out of the 1 million sample

3) determination of the QUANTITY of a given element or compound FOR
THIS BODY (as Cayce used to say in trance 'we have the body')

4) because the body is dynamic yet slow changing, any treatments are
given slowly and with periodic monitoring and adjustment to optimize
the result

I went so far afield from the original that I changed the thread, but
Matthews' father is right, food is the thing which all creatures need
to survive and IF hard times come, the people who can grow it will be
very popular and much more appreciated.

Having grown up in a farming/livestock based community, I classify
farmers right up there with teachers and feel these are people we
should respect, fully support and often express our appreciation for
their work and contributions to keeping us alive and mentoring the
next generations.
