Heating a magnet well above its Curie temperature will permanently
demagnetize it. NEVER attempt to demagnetize a high power rare-earth
magnet by striking it. They are typically very brittle and can shatter
with nearly explosive force. You could be injured by sharp pieces of
magnetic shrapnel.
