Could a magnetic field be used to line up the atoms instead?

hmm.. alumuminum isn't magnetic.. there's got to be something similar
that could be used. Any other ways to align atoms?

Also, what about other materials? If a magnetic field could be used,
then it might be fairly easy to do an experiment where molten
iron/steel was exposed to an intense magnetic field to see if it
had any effect.

or maybe not.. just more crazy ideas.
