To All,
the coal gas you're talking about was used in Britain for lighting
and various industrial processes. There are two types:
Lighting gas
Produced by heating coal- the gas produced is a mixture of methane butane
misc. hydro-carbons and carbon monoxide.
Producer gas
produced by blowing steam into bed of red hot coal- gas 50/50 CO and H
