Well, since it is really WAVES that are being transmitted, the type of
energy used is irrelevant.
After all the communication WAVES must move THROUGH a medium (air,
water, earth, space) and the energy that is being WAVED (electrostatic,
magnetic, electromagnetic, acoustic, photic, etc.) could be purely
magnetic or any of the aforementioned.
As I understand it, even a phase conjugated version of the wave could
produce the 'stress wave' in space referred to as 'scalar', i.e. without
vector.....so you 'throw' these bubbles as single bubbles toward a
target or you stack them as 'invisible' bubbles so they form a column
from the source to the target, sometimes called a 'standing columnar
wave'.
But to do any of the scalar version with any degree of reliability and
credibility, we first have to come up with measuring and viewing devices
to allow us to SEE these 'stress waves'...
