100,000 volts might be enough to light a sting of lights where
the vapor is illuminated by the static charge? I really know very
little on carbo-arc light but for sure they are not incandescent
type bulbs.

Jer, got some carbo-arc lamps to test this out with? This just
might be the key. The long wire produces a narrow beam field
where the pickup wire is located. The pickup is 'tuned' to resonate
at 500kHz and thus a very large voltage can be taken off, with very
very small current. Is this correct for carbo arc lamps?
