It is a very interesting article, its writer got many of the facts wrong,
but there was some useful information concerning the new satellite
imaging.
The meteorologists that I have spoken with will flatly state that they are
uncertain of "All" the factors that cause cloud formation. The ice crystal
explanation works for a limited number of types of clouds, but by no
means covers all types.
What about the lightning that emminates from the ground to the clouds?
This isn't covered in his piece, nor are the blue jets and red sprites of
the
upper atmosphere.
Convection does contribute to cloud formation, but so does cavitation.
The atmosphere functions more like a fluid than is currently accepted.
I would pose this question to those who believe that little bouncing
ice crystals create or are responsible for lightning: why is it that
people don't get fried when the ski resorts operate their snow machines?
There should be a minor capacitive discharge at least, shouldn't there?
Jerry, you know better than to ask me, "what say". That's almost
as bad as asking me what I think <G>.
