Reporting in the journal Science, they used a platinum catalyst to
convert methane into methanol, which can be used to supplement gasoline.
Roy Periana and colleagues at Catalytica Advanced Technologies Inc. in
Mountain View, California, said their method had an efficiency of 72
percent - very high for such an process.
