Anyone can paddle a canoe in a pool. It doesn't equate to what I would
call unidirectional thrust. I know that this device does it from inside
the canoe, but that just requires a non-linearity in the interaction of
the boat and water with thrust. I bet that the water takes off the other
way ... equal and opposite reaction. I can do the same thing sitting on
a chair and jumping across a room.
