>From 'The Agony and the Ecstacy', by George Mercier, pg. 480-481:
"During a fast transpiring across several days where only liquids are
consumed, in the absence and/or significant reduction of any food to go to
work on in the intestine, the body does not give up its search for
nutrients; rather during the fast it then turns to the inside of the body
and goes to work on what it finds there: From the interior walls of the
arteries and capillaries is pulled off the packed decomposed organic
debris, grease, and such other accumulated things as cholesterol; from out
of the tissues, sinews, and bones are pulled calcium and other mineral
deposits that were stored away there-all of a sudden, arthritis [which is
an inflammation of the joints] recedes and will disappear altogether if the
fast is either sufficiently prolonged or is recommenced in a few weeks with
the other continuing fasts. During this time of fasting, all of this
accumulated mess pulled loose from the body gets sent to the colon for
elimination-hence the stools are quite foul smelling. With the enlargement
in cubic volume accompanying the clearing of the arteries and capillaries
comes the reduction in blood pressure. Skin starts to turn soft again; in
some cases it gets as soft as baby skin. After the fifth day of the fast,
the pipes and joints having been somewhat cleaned, the body turns to such
organs as the liver and kidneys, and goes to work on those; for the die
hards who can last in their fasting even longer until the seventh day [a
very difficult thing to do], they find their teeth either turning lilly
white, or else noticeably more white by several shades of degrees,
depending on the toxicity still present in the body and the amount of
toxicity present when the fast was started; initial results vary widely
from one person to the next for this reason-however, after a succession of
fasts, it will only take one day of fasting before the teeth are noticeably
whitened-such an accelerated appearance of white teeth is a sign that
internal contamination is minimal and close to being vacated."
>From reading various articles regarding digestion, those with stomach and
colon problems are encouraged to take small doses of HCl (a few drops of 1%
concentration) to aid in digestion. I have not run across any authors which
state there is too much HCl.
