Hi Jerry and all,

Tesla sure was an interesting fellow, hey. Tesla is commenting on the
effect of storing energy, relatively slowly over time, and then releasing
this stored energy in a very short period of time.

This is what makes high voltage, high value capacitors so dangerous. A
trickle charge over a long period of time can be disruptively discharged
very quickly, with potentially explosive (and heart stopping) results. The
"horsepower" of the trickle charger can be very small while the
"horsepower" of the short duration discharge of this stored energy can be
huge.

Likewise, Tesla comments on taking energy out of engines in the same
manner, using the inertial capacity of the engine to deliver short duration
pulses of energy well above the average energy rating of the engine.

Tesla rightly comments that "undamped waves" (like mains 50/60 Hz) do not
provide this feature and that extracting energy from a device by way of
"undamped waves" will never allow access to energy levels more that the
maximum rating of the device. This is not the case with capacitive
discharge systems.

It does sound exciting when Tesla comments that a machine of 1 KW capacity
can deliver 2 or more KW of "activity". Of course Tesla does not mean that
the machine is running at over unity :)
