Power failure!

Hi Everyone,

I woke up this morning freezing my butt!  It's been several hours and I'm
still without power.  I only have about 15 minutes left on my notebook
battery before I'm completely unable to do anything.  My wife said, "Maybe
'They' are showing us who's boss.".  To which I reply, "Then that is
'Their' mistake".  It's times like this that remind me even more why I'm
here!

Anyway, I just wanted to share some thoughts.  I've been seeing some weird
results in some of the circuits I've been building lately (virtually) and I
thought that it must be a bug in the software I am using.  I came accross a
paragraph of text from Thomas Bearden that made me think it really isn't a
bug.  Well, I think there is a bug in the software but I think it lead me
to see an quirk that might really exist that I wouldn't have seen if the
bug wasn't there.  I have just received an update to the software and that
is much more accurate and now that I know what to look for, I have been
able to get it to happen in the new software also!  I now will build it for
real but it looks like tuning is critical, which has been said by many
people for many o/u devices.  I can believe that but I will not say it
works until I see it!  (right Jerry?!)

To those of you who wish to experiment with some of these circuits but
don't have the expensive test equipment, may I suggest using Electronics
Workbench? ($299)  You can look them up on the Web at
http://www.interactiv.com.  It may not be perfect, but it saves a ton of
time before building for real.  I'm sure some of you may already use some
software, at least for circuit layout.  What's nice about EWB is that you
can interact with mixed digital/analog circuits in real-time.  Flip
switches and see bulbs fry, etc.  Just a thought if you haven't considered
it before, or didn't realize you could get decent electronics simulation
software on the pc.  I believe it's available for Windows and Mac.  Now if
there was only cheap physics simulation software!
