Hi John, I worked extensively with Robert Adams on his pulsed
motor/generator which required fast, variable duty cycle, high impulse
current switching. These usually took the form of a rotory switch. I found
that reed switches, of the correct current rating, also performed quite
well. The switch frequency you require is relatively low and would pose
little problem. You would of course require the driver coil for the reed
switch. The driver coil could be driven via a feedback loop (with
capacitance, etc for mark - space ratio control) or driven by a low power
oscillator with appropriate controls. Good luck.
