Subject: Toluene and Water emulsion as fuel
A couple of years ago at about Xmas time, many newspapers carried a story
about a NEW FUEL made from Toluene and water, 60% water to 40% toluene.
The articles claimed cars ran normally and that the State of Nevada was
preparing a fleet test.
This stuff was supposed to be really clean burning and CHEAP since toluene is
a byproduct of primary oil distilation proceses.
Any way... The Contra Costa Times (Contra Costa County, California)
newspapers, carried this story, as well as several others. But nothing since.
Has anyone one heard of this fuel and what is going on?

A websearch found
this CDC site providing the properties of Toluene. It looks like it would
be too dangerous to be used as a fuel because of the health side effects.
As of 10/03/97, several people have identified this fuel A-21 by Rudolph
Gunnerman.
